Wine, spirits, and beer have been around for hundreds of years. It’s been a way to break the ice for important events, social hours, and more. Even Presidents have their own favorite libation that they enjoy. Speaking of which, we’ll run down some favorite drinks of 7 presidents.
John F. Kennedy
JFK was such a socialite as much as he was a president. He drank mainly in social environments. Some of the things he liked to sip on include daiquiri, champagne, Heineken, etc.
John Adams
You can say that this guy kept it old school. A couple of hard ciders in the morning to “warm-up” before tackling the tasks of the day. He enjoyed a fortified Portuguese wine called “Madeira.” Not to mention, he threw parties with wine laced with rum. Quite the outgoing guy, right?
Woodrow Wilson
It’s a bit funny in this situation. He was a strong opposer of the Volstead Act. which banned booze. His go-to drink was a good scotch.
Ulysses S. Grant
At the time of the Civil War, this guy was quite the drinker. When you’re in the trenches every day, I can see why! He was a heavy drinker of whiskey. However, he was also known to serve champagne at White House parties.
James Buchanan
He certainly lived that bachelor lifestyle, especially with booze. From top-shelf wine to champagne, there wasn’t too much out of his reach.
Theodore Roosevelt
While he wasn’t a huge drinker, he certainly liked to throw back a couple of mint julep. He enjoyed that drink so much that he even planted mint at the White House just to have that freshness for his drinks.
Harry S. Truman
This guy liked to keep things a bit traditional. He would have a swig of bourbon each morning after a walk and a massage. A few things he liked to drink in moderation were a Moscow mule, scotch, and an old-fashioned. Sidenote: if he felt the old-fashioned wasn’t strong enough, he’d send it right back.
