Bring in the taiko drums! When we talk about Japan, we can’t help but think of samurai and ninja. They were two formidable warriors in their own right. Their weapons were a combination of luxury and peasant tools to give it a deadly look. Here are 5 brutal weapons used by samurai and ninja.
Kusarigama
This weapon is a two-for-one. It’s made of a kama (sickle) and attached to a kusari-fundo, which is a heavy chain with a weight on the end. This takes a while to perfect and can be quite deadly in the right hands.
Kakute
This is a cool weapon used by a kunoichi (a female ninja). It has a stealthy motif, which is perfect for the ninja lifestyle. These are rings worn and dipped in powerful toxins, which make for lethal strikes. It’s a cool way to take out an opponent quickly.
Shuriken
These are throwing stars that can either keep an enemy at bay or could be deadly upon impact when hitting the neck area.
Tessen
These are full-fledged fans with blades along the edge. High-ranking samurai use these because of the elegance behind them. They seem like the common folding fan to the naked eye but can take an enemy out at a close range.
Naginata
This long, wooden rod with a curved blade at the end was perfect for both samurai and ninja. It’s especially beneficial for going up against taller opponents because of the extended reach.
